Google Allows Phone Calls…

Posted on August 26, 2010 · Leave a Comment

If you use Gmail Chat a lot, then you may not have noticed the “phone button” icon that pops up on your chats or under your(if they are logged in). We’ve probably overlooked it to be the same voice and video chat service that we normally had with our Chat features, but this new phone calling roll-out allows LIVE phone calls through email.

Yes, Google Phone Calling (VOiP) will be contending with Skype! Honestly, I’m on Gmail right now and love the fact that I can chat for free, share videos,

Gmail

Easy Calling!

write emails, and call someone if I have to from ONE window. With Skype, you can’t do that!

The call feature works as an internet plug-in and is free and fast to use!

Google will allow FREE domestic calls to any landline or mobile phone and charge as low as 2c for International Calls. We already can talk/communicate to our friends in the country so many different ways but this will definitely attract friends and family abroad.

International calling is possible by charging a phone credit that can be loaded into your Google Account with a credit card.

Read on…

What do our Reserve Residents think of this? Any Google employees care to expand on the new feature?

Small enough for a purse yet big enough to slay the Goliath known as the iPad, the Dell Streak is quite a contender in the tablet world.

Released on Friday, the Streak is much similar to the iPad but cheaper and is an easy to use touch-screen tablet turned smartphone (when you need).

I’m not quite sure how one will look holding up a 6” phone to their ear but the thought of knowing it has phone capability, gives it one up on the iPad.

Why get a Streak when you have a smart phone? Well the 5” screen as well as the WiFi performance, allows users to surf the web, upload pictures and watch TV/Videos on a  squint-free interface.

Loaded with a 1Hz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor and Android OS system you can mutli-task and perform instances simultaneously without delay.

Did we mention the apps? Probably the thing that everyone now looks for in a smart device is its apps and connectivity to social networks. The Streak is equipped with Twitter, Facebook and Skype pre-loaded and has tons of apps from the Android Marketplace.

Its service, like the iPad, is also sold exclusively through AT&T.  The Streak sells for 549.99 through the Dell website, but if you plan on using that phone capability, you can get it for as low as $299.99 with a 2yr contract signing through AT&T.

What do you think: Do you think this streak should stands a chance to the iPad in the tablet realm or does it have better leverage as a smart-phone that looks like a tablet?

Today is Friday the 13th, but there’s nothing fearful about today. The AT&T San Jose Jazz Festival kicks off today at 5:30pm! Going until Sunday the 15th, the annual event is in its 21st year.

Cool down the hot days of summer with simmering jazz tunes from a line-up of awesome jazz acts (solo to group). Every stage paints a new colorful feel with melodic notes from the saxophones and horns.

Each day converges the sounds of jazz, R&B, blues, funk, salsa, Latin dance and much more! None of the over 50 performers are the same! Also in the mix of the main stagers are over 1000 artists, whether underground or grassroots.

Each day’s admission is $15 and gives you access to all stages! Children under 12 are free!

See Schedule for: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

If all of this excitement doesn’t get you into the funk yet, maybe this performer will:

Burning Rubber!

Are the San Jose Sharks cursed? I mean seriously, how have we not made the finals in the last two years?

The Sharks recently signed Jamal Mayers, who has been in over 48 playoff games,( all with St Louis) but the 35 year old player is past his prime. He scored3 goals last year with 11 assists as a right winger– not too pretty! But Mayers is excited to come to San Jose, and hopefully he can have a better season.

But this fan still has some doubts. The Sharks also offered a deal to Steven Zalewski, who lead all Worcester forwards in points last year; I would like to see this kid stick this season.

I am still torn about the goaltending situation! When Niitymaki is on, he is fairly good, but the problem with the Finish Goalkeeper, is his consistency. He will have to battle San Jose Sharks Hockeywith Greiss for the starting position. I am not sure who will come out on top, but the battle is really bad for goalies.

Of course, all the action will be back with your favorite forwards all coming back. I just have a feeling that this is going to be Heatley’s year. I mean it, he is going to blow up.

If you, like me can’t wait for the Season to start, the first preseason home game is September 22 vs State Rivals the Ducks. Preseason is a great time to watch the young players who are trying for a chance to make the team. The Sharks are opening up the season in Stockholm during the NHL exposition games vs, The Blue Jackets.

You can enter for a chance to win a trip to the game by texting Sweden to 74499. Or, you can now buy flex plan packages, which lets you pick the 10 games you want tickets to.

Are you excited for this season?

We’ve been indulging in treats and eats all summer long—at home, at cookouts, pool parties and those summer dates. Granted they’re the best part of hanging out with friends and family but in guilt we’ve tried to stay away from those delectable treats that we’ve become victim to. There have been plenty of times where we need that one meal to save dinnertime. In these instances, we’d whip out the recipe book or head to the frozen dinner sections of the local grocery store, and end up with a classic pasta casserole dish on the dinner table.

Yes, indeed! All hail the many variations and servings of lasagna that have fed our families for the last couple dinner times. With that, we’d like to take today, July 29th, to celebrate National Lasagna Day!

Most of you like your lasagna classic Italian style—hearty red pasta sauce, pre-bought or hand made pasta with ground meat and tons of cheeses. Soon came variations of chicken and vegetable lasagna.

Today, when your family asks what’s for dinner, you already know what to tell them!

This time try a different approach to the all-time favorite with an organic lasagna Lasagna Ingredientsrecipe.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds organic ground beef, 1/4 cup chopped onions, 1 crushed garlic clove, 3 to 4 sliced mushrooms, 2 cups cottage cheese, 1 egg, beaten, 16 ounces organic mozzarella cheese, 8 ounce package of organic lasagna noodles, 2 of the 6 ounce cans organic tomato paste, 28 ounce can organic tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon Parsley, Herbamare Pepper, Oregano, Basil [1]

Prep Time: 1 hr.  Cook Time: 45min
